NexusTrust
Trustworthiness assurance for reliable, explainable and ethically aligned AI operation.
NexusTrust is VTG’s trustworthiness assurance capability — providing the monitoring, evaluation and governance layer required to ensure reliable, explainable and ethically aligned AI operation. It combines performance validation, uncertainty analysis, explainability support and compliance-aware oversight to strengthen confidence in AI-enabled decision-making across the deployment lifecycle.
Where NexusFlow orchestrates what AI does, NexusTrust assures how well it does it and whether it should. It plugs into any Nexus product — or any partner AI stack — as a governance layer that continuously validates performance, flags drift, explains decisions, and generates the compliance evidence that regulators, auditors, and institutional stakeholders require.
Key Features
- Continuous performance and drift monitoring of deployed AI models in real-time and batch modes
- Uncertainty quantification and confidence reporting — so operators know when to trust and when to verify
- Explainability support — feature attribution, counterfactual explanations, and human-readable rationales
- EU AI Act-aligned oversight — risk classification, documentation, and conformity evidence generation
- Audit trails and evidence packs — immutable records of every model decision, intervention, and override
- Human-in-the-loop review workflows — configurable escalation points with structured approval processes
- Pluggable architecture — integrates into NexusFlow and any downstream Nexus product or external AI system

How It Works
Continuous Performance Monitoring
AI models degrade. Training data drifts away from production reality. Upstream data sources change format or quality. NexusTrust monitors deployed models continuously — tracking accuracy, precision, recall, calibration, and domain-specific KPIs against baseline benchmarks. When performance drops below configurable thresholds, NexusTrust generates alerts, pauses affected workflows if configured to do so, and produces diagnostic reports identifying the likely cause: data drift, concept drift, upstream quality degradation, or model staleness.
Uncertainty Quantification
Not every model output deserves the same level of trust. NexusTrust adds uncertainty quantification to model predictions — reporting not just the answer but the confidence interval, the prediction entropy, and whether the input falls within the model’s training distribution. This allows downstream systems and human operators to treat high-confidence outputs differently from uncertain ones: auto-approve versus escalate, act versus investigate. In safety-critical domains — healthcare, public safety, energy — this distinction is the difference between responsible deployment and reckless automation.
Explainability
NexusTrust provides multiple explainability methods depending on the model type and the audience. Feature attribution highlights which input features most influenced a prediction — critical for tabular models and clinical decision support. Counterfactual explanations answer “what would need to change for a different outcome” — useful for fairness auditing and regulatory review. Rationale generation uses LLM-based summarisation to produce human-readable justifications that reference the evidence and reasoning chain — particularly valuable when NexusTrust assures NexusFlow agentic workflows or NexusScholar document-intelligence outputs.
EU AI Act Compliance
The EU AI Act imposes specific obligations on high-risk AI systems: risk management documentation, data governance evidence, technical documentation, transparency provisions, human oversight mechanisms, and accuracy/robustness reporting. NexusTrust operationalises these requirements by continuously generating the evidence that compliance demands — not as a one-time documentation exercise, but as a living compliance record that evolves with the system. It produces structured conformity packs that map directly to the Act’s requirements, ready for audit by notified bodies or internal governance teams.
Audit Trails & Evidence Packs
Every interaction between NexusTrust and the systems it monitors is immutably logged: model version deployed, data processed, predictions made, confidence scores, explanations generated, alerts raised, human interventions recorded, and overrides documented. These logs can be assembled into evidence packs — timestamped, structured, and exportable — for regulatory submission, institutional review, or forensic investigation. The audit trail is not an afterthought; it is the primary output of NexusTrust’s governance function.
NexusTrust Across the Nexus Suite
NexusTrust provides the assurance layer for every Nexus product, ensuring that AI-driven decisions remain trustworthy regardless of domain:
- NexusFlow — monitors orchestrated workflows, validates agent decisions, and ensures agentic autonomy stays within governance bounds
- NexusGuard — provides EU AI Act-compliant audit trails for high-risk surveillance and biometric-adjacent AI
- NexusCare — validates clinical AI recommendations against safety thresholds and uncertainty bounds
- NexusEarth — monitors EO model accuracy and flags drift in satellite image classification pipelines
- NexusPlace — assures robotic perception and placement decisions meet quality and safety standards
- NexusScholar — validates retrieval quality and grounding accuracy for document-intelligence outputs
- NexusCurate — ensures provenance integrity and rights compliance for GenAI creative workflows
Heritage & Lineage
NexusTrust builds on VTG’s AI assurance research lineage, including the ULTIMATE project toolkit for robotic AI-based data analysis and visualisation (published at ACIIDS 2024). The capability draws on VTG’s long-standing work in explainable AI, model validation, and governance-by-design practices developed across EU-funded R&D engagements — now consolidated into a deployable assurance product that operates alongside any AI system, not just the Nexus suite.
